Tour description:

For the adventurous foodie looking to experience the foods and flavors enjoyed by locals, Untouristed takes you through one of Vallarta’s oldest neighborhoods, 5 de Diciembre. Meet the families behind the food as you stroll though the historic cobbled streets sampling recipes passed down through generations. You will also visit an outdoor market selling fresh fruits, vegetables, cheeses, and meats, as well as taste a tortilla fresh off the press. The tour also stops at a local bakery for pan dulce and a dessert stop for homemade ice cream with traditional flavors including mango, lime, coconut, and others.

What foods to expect:

You will not leave hungry. Some of the traditional Mexican foods you may try include:

  • Goat or beef birria taco
  • Pork aldilla taco
  • Pork carnitas taco
  • Carne asada taco
  • Fish, shrimp, or octopus taco
  • Gordita with choice of stewed meats
  • Pan dulce (Mexican sweet bread)
  • Homemade popsicles/ice cream

Untouristed is the longest of our walking tours and navigates to back streets of Vallarta. We do not recommend this tour for guests with mobility issues or guests needing the use of strollers.

Pickup/Departure
The Untouristed tour begins at the Kiosko Convenience Store at the Pemex Gas Station, Av México 1250, in Cinco de Diciembre, Puerto Vallarta (link below). Your Vallarta Eats Foodie Guide can be identified by the Vallarta Eats shirt they will be wearing. If you are driving please allow time to find parking. This location is easy to find and many bus routes will take you there. Also, any taxi will know this location. Make sure to check our FAQ for driving times from nearby hotels and resorts. Information on driving times given to you by your hotel concierge may be based on old traffic patterns, and we are unable to wait for late guests.

What to Bring

  • Cash for additional purchases and guide gratuity.
  • Please wear comfortable shoes and bring your sunscreen. This is a walking tour and covers the longest distance of our tours. This tour is not recommended for guests with mobility issues.
  • Cash in Pesos to tip your guide for great service (between 200 and 250 Pesos is recommended)

Cancellation Policy

Tours or individual tickets cancelled more than 48 hours in advance of scheduled tour time will receive a full refund. Tours canceled fewer than 48 hours can be rescheduled with a $20 rebooking fee per guest, but are not eligible for refund. Tours that are rebooked cannot be refunded even prior to the 48 hour cancelation window. Guests who are “No-Shows” — guests who do not show up for their scheduled tour time or are not present when the tour leaves the starting point (10 minutes after the tour’s scheduled start time) are not eligible for refund, rescheduling, credit, or to join the tour in progress. Unless mandated by the national weather authority, tours run rain or shine, and tours will not be canceled once the tour has started. Guests who decide to abandon a tour for any reason once the tour has started are not eligible for refund, rescheduling, or credit.

Gift Cards and Gift Certificates are non-refundable.

Payment in cash is non-refundable.

Tours run rain or shine. Booking insurance is available for purchases of a $9.99 flat fee made through the website and covers cancelations made between 24 and 48 hours prior to tour start time

Custom tours are subject to cancellation policies as agreed upon between client and Vallarta Eats.
